Use of New Cooking Utensils

Use of New Cooking Utensils During the Corona Crisis

The sale described below permits one to use new cooking utensils without the need for immersion in the Mikvah.

During this period of crisis when our mobility is restricted, we know that many people will be unable to take newly-bought utensils and immerse them in the mikvah.  However, it is fully permissible to use these utensils if they are owned by a non-Jew who is lending them for use by the Jew.  (Based on the Shulchan Aruch, Yorah De-ah, 120:17)

Tzohar will sell these utensils on your behalf to a non-Jew who will agree to lend them to you for your use so that you will not be required to take them to the mikvah.

Only utensils that have already been purchased can be sold. If new utensils are purchased, a new sale must take place.

When the situation allows for the utensils to be taken to the Mikvah, Tzohar will repurchase them from the non-Jew.  At that time, the utensils will again become your fully owned property and you will need to take them for immersion in the mikvah.

May we be blessed to hear only good news in the very near future and may we all enjoy a Chag Kasher V’Sameach.
