About Tzohar

OUR MISSION

Founded upon loyalty to the State of Israel and commitment to Halacha, TZOHAR's mission is to guarantee the Jewish future of the State of Israel. Over the past two decades TZOHAR has become one of the most prominent brands of Jewish identity in Israel, directly impacting hundreds of thousands of families, nurturing moderate, rabbinic leadership and shaping public policy. TZOHAR has emerged as a powerful national movement of 1,000 Zionist rabbis and women volunteers who are leading the revolution for an ethical, inclusive & inspiring Jewish Israel.

JEWISH LIFE IN ISRAEL

In Israel, unlike other Western democracies, religion & state are highly integrated. The founders of the State of Israel agreed that the country’s existence largely depends on preserving its Jewish character. This led to legislation on fundamental issues such as the Right of Return, Jewish marriage and divorce, Shabbat and holidays, Kosher, burial etc. The Chief Rabbinate & the Ministry of Religious Affairs were subsequently established, to govern these laws.

WHAT WENT WRONG?

The Chief Rabbinate and the Ministry of Religious Affairs are powerful government monopolies, which directly impact the entire lifecycle of every Jewish women & man in Israel, as well as the country’s economy, demography, agriculture & military. Over the past few decades, Israel’s religious establishment has become bureaucratic, dysfunctional and highly political. This has created obstacles to practicing Judaism, resentment towards Jewish tradition and continues to fuel an alarming wave of assimilation & intermarriage in Israel. This tragedy, combined with the growing rift between religious & secular society and the alienation of world Jewry, poses a fundamental threat to the future of the Jewish state.

TZOHAR Receives "Presidential Award for Volunteers"

TZOHAR received the prestigious "Presidential Award for Volunteers" in recognition of national impact of over 1,000 rabbis & women volunteers who are the heart & soul of Tzohar's accomplishments.

"You represent the light of Israel. You represent the warm heart, the soul and the love of Israel. It is important that the Jewish People draw pride and educational inspiration from your work. I exspress my appreciation on behalf of all the citizens of Israel. ...." Shimon Peres, Former President of the State of Israel
