Marriage constitutes an alliance of love and commitment between spouses and laying the foundation stone for establishing a common family.

The marriage union differs materially from regular business partnerships, which stem from personal interests and disintegrate with ease. The marriage union is established on a deep ethical commitment; on an aspiration to fulfill a joint destiny and on establishing the future generation. Consequently, an effort must be made for the stabilization of this union.

Notwithstanding, Jewish Halacha recognizes the regretful reality in which the spouses decide to dissolve the marriage union and allows for divorce proceedings. The recognition of this reality necessitates advanced deployment so that, Heaven forbid, if the marriage is unsuccessful, the spouses can separate in the most correct manner for both them and their children. The purpose of the “agreement of love” is to ensure that, during the separation period that precedes the termination of the marriage and, also at the time of the termination of the marriage, the spouses will know how to maintain  both their own and the second party’s respect and dignity.

Especially, just before entering the bond of marriage, when feelings of love, unity, respect and mutual trust are strongest, it would be correct to sign this agreement, which is likely to assist those couples that require it to overcome any future differences of opinion during times of distress.

The spouses’ knowledge that, even during a time of crisis (should this eventuate Heaven forbid) the principal agreements that were established during moments of trust and love, can ease tensions that could arise during married life and reinforce the solidity, mutual security and commitment to the marriage bond, please God.

May you enjoy a happy and joyous married life forever.
